So I thought I would chime in. I drive mostly city and average about 19-21 mpg.
On the highway depending on how aggressive I am driving I get anywhere between 30-32 mpg. Based on my understanding those amounts are very close to what the EPA estimates for our car. Many things depend on the mood I am in, or what the weather is like.
If you drive in the winter like I do, there is a hit there as well.I thought about having a GT but I would be getting probably 15 or less in the city and just under on the highway. Since most of my driving is city it didn't make any sense to grab the GT instead.Forgot to mention I track all the times I refuel the car so I have a pretty extensive list of data. The low fuel warning light is there to give you adequate time to get to a station without fear of running out not because you are in danger of a fuel pump failure.The manufacturers spend a lot of time designing the fuel delivery system to ensure you can safely use all the fuel in the tank.The whole sluge argument is flawed in that anything floating around in your tank is naturally going to collect where the pickup is because it's the lowest point in the tank so the issue exists whether the tank is full or empty. The manufactuers put a large surface area filter on the pick up to negate this issue. Also, just like your oil filter, anything that is small enough to pass the filter is small enough to pass through the pump without issue.Dave.
